Hey now, the dream is over....

Well, it was too good to be true.

The child has started pooping in his pants again. (disinfected the shower again last night after hosing him down) He did very well for three weeks – no problems whatsoever. Just normal bathroom behavior. But then this week, all was lost. I don’t know what the matter is with this child. Obviously he can do it on the potty.

He had a good talking to from us and also had to answer many questions, many involving around the word: WHY?

The thing is, it doesn’t seem to concern him at all that he was covered in poop from knee till navel.

Why Monty? Didn’t you feel so good about yourself when you used the toilet like a big boy? Remember how you said you were five, and now you were only going to do it on the potty? Remember how happy you made mommy and daddy and how proud you were?

And he just looks at me with this mischievous grin.

First he said: “I didn’t know where the bathroom was…” (at home or at school, either way it is BS!!!!)

And finally he said: “ I just wanted to hold it in but it didn’t work. ” (You don’t say…)

But the thing is, now that he was good for three weeks, he has out-ed himself. No more excuses like: ‘he just doesn’t realize that it’s coming,’ ‘He just didn’t get potty trained well’ or ‘he is traumatized somehow’ and yada yada yada. He is just to freaking lazy to go to the toilet! Darn kid.

But now, now we know he can have ‘proper bathroom behavior’ !! So he can be punished when he just chooses to make a ‘deposit’ in his pants. None of the measures have worked so far, (no candy, no toys, no popsicles etc, he doesn’t care) but we came up with a new one: no TV. And if there is one kid I know that is a TV addict…

Honestly, it has got to stop already! NO-MORE-POO!

to loose your appetite

Now there are many ways in which the boys can make me loose my appetite (an accomplishment in itself, because everyone knows I love to eat). This is one tops the list at the moment:

Monty: “what are you eating mommy.”

Me: “Chicken.”

Monty: “is the chicken dead?”

I drop my fork. “Yes honey, it is dead.”

Monty: “Why is it dead?”

“Because otherwise we couldn’t eat it.”

“Who killed the chicken? And how did they kill it?”

Monty! There is a different time for these questions…

The miracle of ‘No-more-Poo’

No, not a typo, I am not referring to Winnie the Pooh. I am actually referring to Nr 2. And finally, finally Monty dealing with this process in a normal matter. Quick recap: for the past year and an half he has been either constipated because he refused to go, or (when given laxatives) been doing it in his pants. So many, many hours spend sitting with him by the toilet trying to get him to go. So many, many poopie pants to wash out (his teacher at school was not amused, let me tell you that) So many, many times of hosing him down in the shower when he was covered from navel till knee. (poop in the tub, poop spraying everywhere, poop on the walls –Gross, gross, gross…) So many, many extra laundry done and so many, many times of sanitizing the shower…

And then suddenly… Monty turned five and announced: "I am five now so I am not going to poop in my pants anymore." We were a little skeptical, because he announced this many times before. But it’s been two weeks and he has appropriately only done IT on the toilet and not held it in anymore. I guess all he needed is to DECIDE that he was going to do it on the toilet instead of his pants.

It was not a matter of any medical issue, of the right kind of bribes or of some sort of trauma… No, it was just a decision on his part. Well, thanks for the last year and a half, Bozo! Couldn’t you have decided this in December of 07?

I guess it is just like when he was about two and would be bawling his eyes out and suddenly announce: “Crying done” (and stop crying immediately). And now he has announced: “pooping in pants is done.”

It’s kind of a weird thing to mention in your prayers, but THANK GOD!

Mind you, it’s only been two weeks (but somehow it feels like 6 months) so may it’s too early to celebrate, but we are just so FREAKING happy!

Yea for Monty!!!

Yea for using the toilet!!!

Yea for being five!!!

Pirate party

A little belated, but we finally had Stoney's birthday party. Christmas time is just not good for birthday parties, and since Stoney wanted to do the party at the Park, we waited till the weather was nicer. And the weather came through, even though there were scattered showers forecasted, they didn't fall here.

We had a pirate themed party and had lots of fun.

We had a treasure hunt that the kids LOVED. They were running all over the place to finally get to the clue that revealed the locoation of the treasure.

The treasure consisted of eye patches (what would a pirate be without one?) and golden Florins (well, euros really).

After that we had a mighty sea battle. Two teams of pirates tried to sink the other team's ship with water balloons. We had so much fun! The balloons were so thick, they didn't burst very quickly, they just kept on bouncing, so the battle kept going for ages. It finally ended in a tie when both pirate teams ran out of canon balls (balloons).

After the sea battle there was some good old fashioned fun.

He's Five!!!

Wow, where did time go? He just turned five.
My little boy is getting so big! (now if he started acting like a five year old as well - instead of a two year old- that would be good).

We did his birthday party on Wednesday afternoon (they always have just half a day of school on Wednesday). We didn't have a lot of kids there, and they weren't that interested in any of the games I had planned on doing, but hey, they had a good time.

His actual birthday was on Friday, and Oma, Opa and uncle Marijn came over.

Monty got a castle for his birthday and the boys had a great time playing with it.

Because we had a party on Wednesday and on Friday, Monty had two cakes! The one on Friday was a caterpiller one. Which he apparently had some doubts about - notice the look in his eyes!

Luck would have it, that May 1st is a national holiday in Belgium, so we all had the day off. The weather was great too, so we had a really enjoyable day.
